House of Marley Chant Sport, a great tech gift for anyone on your list!
I imagine that I date myself when I confess that I am still a bit impressed by all the possible Bluetooth technology that I get to play with.
That said, I know that wireless speakers are quite common and the specific features are the key to selecting the right one for your particular needs.
Lets get a closer look at the House of Marley Chant Sport…
This cylindrical speaker is about 6.5 inches tall, about 3 inches in diameter and weighs about a pound. There are very simple controls on top that control volume, Bluetooth connection and on/off; this design makes the speaker kind of blend in with it’s surroundings.
It is the perfect size to fit in a cup-holder or a bottle-holder and It comes with a carabiner that allows you to hang it off of a bag or a belt loop. This speaker is water and dust resistant and even somewhat buoyant, but I would not even try to see how it fares if submerged.
The unit has a built-in microphone for speakerphone use and is designed to give up to eight hours of service on a full battery charge, depending on your usage. It comes with a Micro USB/USB charging cable and has an auxiliary 3.5mm input, which are protected by a rubber cover.
The materials used in the packaging (Natural wood fiber and recycled PP composite) and the speaker itself (Blended Bio-plastic, silicone and Aluminum) are environmentally friendly.
I found it easy to pair with an iPhone 6 and it works well at a range of 20-30 feet. The signal did struggle to get through a couple of walls, but I imagine that to be about normal.
Sound-wise, the speaker has a loud, clear voice at the mid and higher registers. The bass was lacking but I understand that this is common for speakers in the price range (around $100). We ran a wide variety of music genres through the speaker and it did quite nicely. The cylindrical design allows you to hear well all around the speaker ,so it goes great in the center of your activities.
Summing up, The House of Marley Chant Sport is a solid bluetooth speaker for people on the go. If your goal is to have some background music for your picnic, golf outing, bike trip or kayak voyage, this sturdy little guy fits the bill. Happily, It won’t get ruined even if you get rained on, as happens often up here in the great Northwest.
I plan to continue to test this unit during more everyday life activities and I will update this if anything interesting comes up.
